Why we built it

It says dog on the box. There is a cat filter inside.

Take the filter out of your dog’s fountain and set it beside the one from a cat fountain. On almost every brand it is the same part — the same thin foam pad, sized for a pet that sheds a fraction of what your dog does. That is the whole reason this exists.

  • A filter built for dog hair, not a cat’s foam pad
  • Traps coat hair and yard debris instead of packing up in days
  • Steady flow all day, so the water is always turning over
  • 304 stainless steel that comes apart in 4 pieces and washes in minutes
  • 60 days to send it back if he will not drink from it

The B and B Filtered Doggy Fountain with water falling from the spout and a golden retriever sitting behind it

A big dog leaves a lot behind. All of it ends up in the water.

Coat hair on every single drink. Drool. Grass and dirt off the muzzle after the yard. A cat contributes almost none of this, which is exactly the pet those little foam pads were designed around. Run a hand around the inside of his bowl after a warm afternoon and you can feel what a filter is actually being asked to hold.

  • Undercoat sheds into the water every time he drinks
  • Dirt and grass come in on his muzzle from outside
  • A cat filter was never sized for any of it

Washing it more often was never the fix.The part inside was the problem.

Most owners land on the same routine. Pull the fountain apart every weekend, rinse the pad, put it back, watch the flow drop off again by Wednesday. That is not a cleaning habit problem. A pad that small fills up in days no matter how carefully you look after it, because capacity is not something you can scrub into a part.

  • A small foam pad packs full within days
  • Flow slows, so the water stops turning over
  • Washing it more often does not add capacity

A used foam fountain filter matted with trapped pet hair, seen from above

So we designed the filter first. Then built the fountain around it.

Ours is a structured cartridge rather than a pad. More surface area, more room to hold hair and debris, and a housing that keeps water moving through it instead of choking on the first week of shedding. The fountain is sized to match — a wide basin, a pump strong enough to keep the whole thing turning over, and 304 stainless steel that comes apart in four pieces.

  • Filters 3x as strong as the standard foam pad
  • The whole basin circulates continuously, not on a timer
  • Comes apart in 4 pieces, so every surface is reachable

The B and B filter cartridge beside the plain foam pad that cat fountains use

He may have already told you.It is easy to read as fussiness.

Dogs often drink less from water that has been standing, and more so once the weather warms up. If yours sniffs the bowl and wanders off, or you have started adding broth to get him interested, the water is worth checking before he is. Most owners check the bowl. Almost nobody thinks to check the filter.

  • He sniffs it and walks away
  • He drinks noticeably less in summer
  • You have started topping it up with something tastier

These are our own filters, built to hold dog hair and debris — not the foam pad a cat fountain ships with. One is $4.99 and lasts 2 to 4 weeks, so it stays under $10 a month even if you change it every fortnight.

I had no idea it was a cat filter

Our lab went through two other fountains before this one. Both clogged inside a week and I assumed he was just a messy drinker. Then I held one of the old filters next to the one from my sister’s cat fountain and they were the same part. This one is a different thing entirely. I change it once a month, the flow does not drop off in between, and he goes back to it on his own through the afternoon.

Before you decide

Everything else you might be wondering.

Everything people ask us before they order. If yours is not here, email hellobeaubarker@gmail.com and we will answer it.

Most do, though not always on the first day. He has drunk from the same still bowl his whole life, so moving water is new to him. Put it where the old bowl was, leave the old bowl out beside it for a few days, and most dogs switch over within about a week.
Then you should not be out of pocket. Tell us within 60 days and we refund you in full. There is no need to ship it back.
Slime in a cheap fountain almost always starts where you cannot reach: the narrow channels and the sealed pump housing. Moving the water was never the hard part. This comes apart in 4 pieces by hand, so every surface the water touches is one you can actually clean.
Once a month, yes. Moving water stops a film taking hold between washes, but it does not replace the wash. The difference is that when you do wash this one you can reach every surface, so nothing survives in a groove to start it again.
Because the material is only half of it. Film forms wherever water sits still long enough to anchor, and a bowl is built to hold still water. Better steel slows it down. Only circulation stops it starting.
Every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on how much your dog drinks. A replacement filter is $4.99, which works out at under $10 a month even on a fortnightly change. They are sold on their own, and there is no subscription you have to join to get them, though you can set one up if you would rather not think about it.
Yes. Tap water is what nearly everyone uses. The filter deals with particles and taste before the water reaches him.
Very unlikely. It is solid stainless steel on a wide, flat base, and it sits low. Big dogs shove plastic fountains around the kitchen because plastic is light. This is not.
25 decibels, which is quieter than a whisper. It is a pump, so it is not perfectly silent, but it sits in a kitchen overnight without anyone noticing it.
Rinse the 4 pieces, drop in a filter, fill to the window on the side and switch it on. No app, nothing to program, nothing to pair. It takes a couple of minutes.
4L for one dog under 25 lb. 7L for dogs over 25 lb, or for homes with more than one. If you are between the two, take the 7L — more fresh water is always better.
Yes. Take the 7L. The basin is wide enough for two to drink at once and holds enough for a full day.
Tell us and we will sort it out. The pump lifts out by hand, so swapping one is a two-minute job rather than a repair.
